Now, I'll not delve into the pros and cons in government and private sectors because there are loads of answers already, but here's something you could ponder upon. Perhaps, you'll find your answer from within, instead of rifling through others' never-ending experiences.
If you're that soul who keeps comfort and luxury as your priority, which isn't such a bad thing, then the government-sector work culture and paycheck will leave you dissatisfied and disappointed. The more work you do, the more you get dumped with, without any appreciation or incentives. Seniority comes with experience and not with performance. Work 5 hours a day or 15 hours a day, it doesn't matter.
If you're creative and want to bring in some unique intiative, the government sector will make you lose hope again. Except for some rare cases, everybody else, more or less, just follow the protocol without questioning the system, no matter how dumb and ineffective it is. You have no say.
If you're hyper active in your work and want to keep pushing your limits, then government sector will give you burn marks. Not because you're doing great work, but because you constantly come under the radar of those wolves who've been exploiting loop holes for decades, and you coming across them isn't a good sign.
If you find joy in working with people smarter than you, people who are unique and hold a different worldy perspective, then again, the government sector will disappoint. Apart from a handful of them, most of your seniors or colleagues are there for the perks, want to lead a normal life, marry off their children, and retire peacefully with a bulk fixed deposit. They don't think about anything crazy or magnanimous like you do, though they've got desires which they gave up on. They choose to be one among the crowd. It's easy that way for them. You'll find yourself wondering where you're stuck.
If you're laidback and need a comfortable and satisfied life with more time for family, hobbies and travel, and you don't mind bending some rules to keep the system running, then you'll find bliss in the government sector. You just have to be a puzzle piece which fits in well, and you're free to enjoy your after-office life. The government takes care of your housing, bills, travel, insurance, etc and most of your salary goes into investment or savings. That perfect life people dream of. But you need to digest certain junk for it.
If you find happiness with more power and responsibilities while working with the people running the country, and you don't mind their darker shades and atrocities at various levels, then government sector gives you the dopamine rush of being that important person in the so-called creamy position where you can boast about the influencial wand you own. But nevertheless, that feeling withers off as you grow old in the system.
If you aspire working at grass root level with a bunch of powerful subordinates who can actually make a difference in someone's life with a signature and word, then government sector will give you that opportunity. Mind you, meddling with the loopholes again will squeeze out the peace from your life, but that's the sacrifice you'll have to make for whatever cause you believe in. It's always give and take.
If you're into exploring different places, culture, food, and people, then government sector will hand it over to you with multiple transfers at different levels. Be super honest and keep crossing the path of the biggies, you'll see the tougher terrains. Cosy up with them and don't bat an eye for their misdeeds, you'll find yourself in memorable locations. It's again your own choice.
There you go. The different shades of working in the government sector. The opposite of these would be your posh private sector. Your talent gets validated most of the times, and the more you push, the more you grow, though it means compromising on your after-office life and living for yourself without much involvement with different shades of your society.
It's always the choice you make based on your personality.

Private job:

Private jobs in software companies like working in Product-based companies are very good. Companies like Microsoft, Facebook, apple, google, Qualcomm, Oracle, etc comes under product-based companies. You will get immense satisfaction, salary, and hikes but don't join in service-based companies like Capgemini, TCS, Accenture, Infosys, etc. Those are not very good to work in and will be no progress in your career.
Instead, prepare for GATE, CAT, and do higher studies and get a very good company of minimum package 12 lakhs per annum.

Government job:
Now coming to government jobs, not all government jobs are good like a bank PO, FCI, SSC CHSL, constable, teacher, group 4, etc. These are very small posts and have a very little salary. Always Aim High. These small government jobs always should be a backup but not for life long jobs.
Some government jobs give so much respect in the society like UPSC, RBI GRADE B, SSC CGL(top 10-15 posts), scientist b, PSU, gazetted officer posts, Group A, Group B, AEE, AE, Transco, Genco, etc. Prepare for these exams very hard and try to get in the first attempt because government jobs take so much time. So, better to crack in the first attempt itself.

So finally want to conclude that if you get a product based company or a package of 10 lakhs, go for private jobs. Else go for higher studies or prepare for government jobs. Please prepare only one year for government jobs. Later prepare with a backup job because you will feel depressed, demotivated, stressed. With a backup, you feel confident and able to crack it.
